Dr. Sushama Sharma

Professor of Special Education (Retd.) Kurukshetra University, Haryana

With an illustrious career spanning over three decades, Dr. Sushama Sharma is a distinguished academician and expert in the field of Special Education. Holding multiple degrees including a Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Queensland, Australia, Dr. Sharma has dedicated his life to advancing knowledge and promoting inclusivity in education. From serving as Dean of the Faculty of Education to chairing various departments and councils, her leadership roles at Kurukshetra University underscore her commitment to academic excellence and institutional development. She has authored numerous research papers and played a pivotal role in international conferences, earning recognition for her contributions to the field.

Academic and Educational Qualification

B.Sc., B. Ed., M. A. (Economics), M.Ed., M. Phil. (Education), Ph. D.  Special Education (Education) from the University of Queensland, Australia, Post Graduate Diploma in Computers Application (PGDCA), Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication (PGDJMC), and Certificate Course in Yoga.

Over 17 years as a Professor of Special Education in the Department of Special Education (Education) at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra Haryana

Over 32 years of teaching experience - Worked at Regional Institute of Education, Mysore (NCERT) involved with B. Ed. Special Education HI, and National Institute for the Visually Handicapped, Dehradun, The University of Queensland, Australia and Kurukshera University.

  • Conference Chair 3rd World Conference on Education (WCEDU 2019) held at Kuala Lumpur.

LINKAGES WITH THE NGO ON HONORARY CAPACITY

I have been associated with Indian NGOs and International NGOs as a Member/Life member. The details of these NGO/INGO/Associations are given below-

  •       Udayan Care, Delhi-based NGO, is offering Udayan Shalini Fellowship to girl students of low socio-economic status studying in different schools of Kurukshetra and around i.e. Ladwa, Shahbad and Panipat. (Convener of the Programme). Associated with this programme since 2005. So far wehave touched the lives of over 535 girls.
  •         Udayan Care Home (Residential Home) for 14 orphan girls was established by Udayan Care, a Trust with Dr. Kiran Modi, Managing Trustee situated at Sector 7, UE, Kurukshetra. Udayan Care has 17 homes in different cities so far in India. I am the Convener/Director cum Mentor Mother in Kurukshetra associated with the programme on honourary capacity since 2008. The girls are receiving education in 3 good reputed schools.
  •         Life member of Indian Science Congress.
  •        Life member of National Association of the Blind.
  •         Member of the Braille House, Brisbane, Australia
  •       Member of SPEVI, Australia

 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES AS CHAIRPERSON/CO-CHAIRPERSON:

  • Attended WCEDU-2018 as the Co-Chairperson at Colombo from Nov. 28-29, 2018.
  • Attended WCEDU-2019 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as a Chairperson from November 28-29, 2019
